The Dohyō — Anatomy of the Ring
The ring the whole sport is named after, drawn to scale and labelled.
A 4.55 m circle of clay inside a 6.7 m square, ringed by twenty rice-straw bales: sixteen on the line, and four tokudawara set a bale's width back at the compass points — room to brace, and the only mercy in the circle. The two shikiri-sen are printed at their real 90 cm long and 70 cm apart. At the corners hang the four tassels of the tsuriyane, the shrine roof above the ring, one for each season and each direction.
Every measurement on this sheet was checked against published sources before it was printed. The height of the platform is not on it, because the sources disagree about it.
Ink, sand and gold, edge to edge — no white border. Printed on 10.3 mil matte paper.
